NightSchool: Prom
Where Social Meets Science

Did you miss your prom? Did you go to prom and have an amazing time... an awful time? Have you ever wanted another chance to experience the magic? Celebrate prom, science center-style with the grown and geeky! Recycled wrapper corsage-making, photo booth memories, cafe conversations about relationships, sex and attraction, and of course dancing are just a few of the things that will make your night memorable. Did we forget to mention a king and queen will be crowned?! Formal attire not required, but we're sure you'll have more fun decked out in your finest threads.
Solar Eclipse Viewing Party

Guests & Members: $5 after 5pm SOLD OUT
Join us as we observe the Solar Eclipse 2012. Watch as the Moon passes in front of the Sun, a beautifully rare sight in the Bay Area. Get a view from the rooftop of the East Bay hills on our Observatory Deck, with maximum eclipse at 6:32pm. Engage in hands-on solar projects, make a pin-hole camera, solar viewing and converse with experienced astronomers. Special extended hours on our Observatory Deck until 8pm!.jpg)

Maya Skies Q&A

Immerse yourself in the beauty of the "eighth wonder of the world," Mexico's Chichen Itza. Hear the story of the ancient Maya civilization in our full-dome Planetarium show Tales of the Maya Skies. Narrated by Latin Grammy Award winner and Oscar nominee Lila Downs, this show transports us to the jungles of Mexico, presenting the rich history and culture of the ancient Maya. Join us immediately afterward for a discussion with the director and producer of the show.

Moonlight Hike
Friday, June 1 (6pm)
Hike through the redwoods in twilight and moonlight on a moderately strenuous 4-5 mi hike. Trail walks are led by an experienced hiker and Chabot educator and feature discussions about the natural environment and events and objects in the sky. Hike will take place rain or shine.
Tickets: $7 (does not include admission into the Center)

Lunar Eclipse
Monday, June 4 (2am - 5am)
Suggested Donation: $3
Early birds get the... dark. View this partial lunar eclipse from our Observatory Deck in the wee hours of Monday morning. The eclipse will be most visible from 2:59am to 4:03am. Engage in conversation with our astronomers and knowledgeable volunteers as you witness the Moon's passing behind the Earth. This is one obstruction where the view is actually clear.

One month just is not enough to explore the mysteries of space! Come along with your Tyke Explorer for the second part of our space odyssey as we continue to un-space more celestial discoveries.

Transit of Venus
Tuesday, June 5 (3pm - 10pm)
FREE with General Admission
Truly the last chance in a lifetime! Venus will pass in front of the Sun for the last time until December 2117. Join us in celebration of this celestial event with hands-on activities, live broadcasts from NASA, floor demonstrations and, of course, viewing through our special solar scopes and sun spotters. Transit most visible from our area from 3:06pm to 9:50pm. Special Extended Hours until 10pm!

You choose! The first-come-first-served theory usually meant that there were a few of you who missed out on some of the cooler electives. At NightSchool, there's always room for one more, no counselor signature needed. Engage in a night of eclectic electives from shop to art, music to dance. Experience a café conversation on linguistics and the art of communication. Electives: Music, Dance, Shop, Art, Band and Foreign Language.

Father's Day Solar Car Challenge
Sunday, June 17 (1pm - 3pm)
Bring that special man up to design his own hotrod and see how it handles the curves, corners and roadblocks of our challenges. Encouraged by our team of experienced builders, you get to engineer your own Lego® ride outfitted with solar panels and race it on our special track and obstacle course. Also, try your hands at making something using Ken Denmead's book Geek Dad as a guide for cool activities.

Spend a night under the stars or with some really cool exhibits. Join us for Slumber with the Stars, Chabot's family night out. An overnight in our Center that includes games, exhibit exploration, hike in the Redwoods, a live planetarium show and viewing through our renowned, large telescopes.* An experience your family will remember for a lifetime.
