August 1, 2023 — The decommissioned series 3 Astra rocket, Launch Vehicle 0012, will
reside in Chabot’s rotunda for visitors to see and experience upon entering the Center.

October 14, 2021 — Chabot Space & Science Center will reopen November 12 with a new NASA Ames Visitor Center, following more than 18 months of closure to complete construction on the largest Center-wide refresh since 2000. As part of a landmark partnership with NASA’s Ames Research Center, a new exhibition will debut at Chabot titled  NASA Ames Visitor Center.

 

Chabot Space & Science Center Announces Sponsorship of Fremont Bank Studio 1

July 13, 2021 — Chabot Space & Science Center (Chabot), has announced that Fremont Bank Foundation will sponsor a redeveloped 3,600-square-foot gallery, newly named Fremont Bank Studio 1. Fremont Bank Foundation’s $500,000 sponsorship will fuel Chabot’s transformational renovations and support accessible S.T.E.A.M. (science, technology, engineering, art and math) programming at the Center and throughout the community.

 

NASA Lands in Oakland! New Partnership with Chabot Space & Science Center Will Create NASA Learning Opportunities in the East Bay

April 15, 2021 A new partnership between NASA’s Ames Research Center in California’s Silicon Valley and Chabot Space & Science Center in Oakland, California, is now underway. Anchoring the partnership, a new visitor center for Ames will provide an immersive, dynamic STEAM environment called “NASA Ames Visitor Center,” opening at Chabot in November 2021.

 

Chabot Space & Science Center Celebrates 20th Year At The Skyline Campus With Special Events, An Online Auction And A Collective Look Back At The Last 20 Years

Celebrating the latest chapter in its 137-year legacy as an Oakland institution, Chabot Space & Science Center will celebrate 20 years of learning at the Skyline Campus throughout the month of August.  

Events will include two virtual community celebrations, an online silent auction to benefit STEM education at the Center and a look back at highlights from the past 20 years.  

 

Chabot Space And Science Center raised $89,000 through volunteer-led campaign to reinvigorate Oakland’s planetarium. 

Chabot Space and Science Center’s Ask Jeeves planetarium received $89,000 for a critical technology upgrade. More than 150 members of the community contributed to the project, including a $55,000 donation from the Fremont Bank Foundation.

 

Chabot enters their 20th year at the Skyline Campus with the Bay Area Film Festival, a weekend of cosmic romance and a science carnival that celebrates women in STEM.

Chabot Space and Science Center is kicking off the 20th Anniversary on Skyline Drive in 2020 with a lineup of exciting events celebrating local children, women in STEM and more.

 

Chabot Space & Science Center offers viewing of Geminid Meteor Shower with astronomers available.

The public is invited to enjoy the Geminid Meteor Shower from the Chabot Observatory Deck with staff astronomers available to answer questions.

 

Chabot’s winter events include spectacular astronomical events, whimsical First Fridays and the best New Year’s Eve event for families in the Bay Area.

Cozy up at Chabot this winter with pajama parties, sleepovers, spectacular astronomical events and our family friendly hit, Balloon Drop, on December 31.

 

 Chabot Space And Science Center has been awarded $247,000 from the Institute Of Museum And Library Services to fund Oakland Connected Learning Partnership Program.September 30, 2019

Through the Oakland Connected Learning Partnership Program, students from Skyline High School will lead STEM workshops and community events for underserved Oakland residents, students and community members.
