Dogs are performing feats of amazing science every day. Join us in celebrating dogs and their people at our Dog Days of Summer event. Explore the science behind the things that dogs do and love, from training and exercise to play and nutrition. World-renown animal behaviorist, Dr. Ian Dunbar as keynote speaker, demos from Sirius Dog Training, United States Coast Guard, and Canine Circus, plus a Doggie Spa, paw-traits, raffles and much more! Get ready for a day of doggone fun.

  • Planning on bringing your pooch?
    Please note, all waiver forms must be signed before your dog can join the fun! Also, our planetarium and main exhibit spaces will be "dog-free" areas on the event day. If you plan to see shows, we advise to not bring your dog to the Center. Dogs will not be permitted to be left in cars.


Keynote Speaker

Dr. Ian Dunbar, Animal Behaviorist & Dog Trainer
Dr. Dunbar has authored numerous books and DVDs about puppy/dog behavior and training, including How To Teach A New Dog Old Tricks . In 1982, Dr. Dunbar designed and taught the world's very first off-leash puppy socialization and training classes - SIRIUS® Puppy Training. Over the past 40 years, Dr. Dunbar has given over 1000 one-day seminars and workshops for dog trainers and veterinarians in an effort to popularize off-leash puppy socialization classes, temperament modification, and owner-friendly and dog-friendly dog training.

    Learn how humans and dogs interact and the importance of proper training for your puppy and adult dog. Pick up on cues from your dog's behavior and how to react to those signals.
  • Kelly Dunbar: Sirius Sniffers
    Time:
    12:45pm - 1:15pm
    Dogs have amazing capabilities of scent. Kelly Dunbar will present a sniffing demonstration and scent-detection curriculum.
  • Jasen Duncan: Bernese Mountain Dog Carting
    Times: 11am - 11:30am | 1:30pm - 2pm | 3:15pm - 3:30pm
    Learn the history of carting and why breeds, like the Bernese Mountain Dogs, have been trained in Carting and sledding over the years. Witness turns, backups, and side steps and get the download on this historic sport.

    This doggie daycare provider will be demonstrating how the use of feeding toys, specifically Kongs, can provide beneficial mental and physical stimulation for your dog.
  • Paco Collars: Create Your Own Dog Tag
    Paco Collars is dedicated to enhancing you and your dog’s natural style with quality leather products. Hands-on demonstrations will be led throughout the day.
  • Canine Circus
    Canine Circus School makes the science of behavior fun! Teach your dog how to be a star, defy gravity, and be the coolest dog in the universe: sign up for free training lessons at the booth.
  • PawPawrazzi Pet Photography: Pawtraits of Your Beloved Pet
    Commemorate Dog Days of Summer at Chabot with a picture of your most beloved family member. Photos will be taken at the photo booth from 11am - 2:30pm.
