Science Center Goes to the Dogs... for the Second Year in a Row

Oakland CA, July 30, 2014 - Chabot Space & Science Center is going to the dogs, literally. The Center is going to full Fido mode as doors open for the second year in a row to dogs and their owners with Dog Days of Summer taking place on Saturday, August 9, 11am - 4:30pm. A plethora of activities will appeal to dog's senses including dog fashion shows, pet/owner photo shoots, and fabulous dog advocacy speakers.

The event's keynote speaker is Rich Avanzio, president of dog advocacy group, Maddie's Fund. As president, he focuses the family foundation's $300 million endowment on revolutionizing the status and well-being of companion animals through grant giving, hands-on animal care, research and education. Visitors will hear about his goal to create a "no kill nation," where dogs can be received by loving homes all over the United States. Other presenters throughout the day include, Samantha Lee of Citizen Canine, Francis Metcalf of Canine Circus, Christopher Hartman of the U.S. Coast Guard, and a rousing fashion show with clothes provided by Unleashed by Petco.

In addition, training services by The Dog Squad and Citizen Canine will be on hand and Furrtographer Josh Norem will take photos of the hounds and their families. Wags 'n Wellness will offer holistic approaches to acute and chronic conditions as a complement to veterinary medicine through the use of massage, acupressure, herbs, and nutrition. And All About the Dogue will demonstrate approaches to grooming - including combing, nail trimming and other doggie spa techniques.

The Center has developed policies for the event to ensure the best experience for owners and dogs. The "no dogs" rule is being waived for many parts of the Center; all dogs must be on leash, and all owners must sign waivers before participating in the events. All guidelines and forms must be filled out in order to participate and can be found at www.chabotspace.org/dog-days.

Admission is $16 for adults and $12 for children ages 3-12. Discounted adult admission is available for seniors (65+) and students with school ID. Free admission for Chabot Members. For additional information visit www.chabotspace.org or call the box office at (510) 336-7373. The Center is located at 10000 Skyline Blvd, Oakland, California.
