Creative Giving

Did you know you can make a gift that leaves your cash flow and current financial planning unchanged?

Wills & Trusts

Need to preserve your assets during your lifetime? Plan a gift to us that will only take effect after your other obligations have ceased.

Stocks

Take advantage of appreciated securities without incurring capital gains tax by donating shares.

Life Insurance

Regardless of your income, you can make a significant contribution to Chabot Space & Science Center by naming us as a beneficiary on your policy. See our planned giving section for more information.

Real Estate

By donating building or property, you transfer a valuable asset in exchange for powerful tax benefits.

Send Your Car to Space!

You can give us many kinds of personal property that enhance our mission and provide tax benefits to you. Chabot has partnered with the nonprofit organization, Cars for Causes, an organization that will sell your old car for you and pass on 70% of the net sale amount to Chabot (26% of the proceeds go to Cars for Causes other charities, and 4% to administrative fees, the lowest in the industry). Go to this link to donate your old car.

Employer Matching Program

Many employers sponsor matching gift programs and will match any charitable contributions made by their employees. If your company is eligible, request a matching gift form from your employer, and send it completed and signed with your gift. We will do the rest. The impact of your gift to Chabot Space & Science Center may be doubled or possibly tripled! Some companies match gifts made by retirees and/or spouses as well.

If you are 70 1/2 and older: We anticipate that Congress will pass the Tax Increase Prevention Act of 2014 (H.R. 5771), which will extend a provision allowing individuals 70 ½ and older to donate up to $100,000 in IRA assets to a qualified charitable organization. The IRA charitable rollover is tax-free and not included in a donor's adjusted gross income. The bill may not pass until the first quarter of 2015, but will apply to IRA transfers up until April 15, 2015. If you are interested in making a gift through your IRA, please contact your financial advisor for more information.
