Today Chabot offers visitors the very latest in hands-on, interactive exhibits, displays, and Planetarium shows that explore the mysteries of the universe and of life here on earth. Chabot Space & Science Center is extremely proud of its reputation as one of Northern California’s leading centers for informal science education.

Chabot Space & Science Center is seeking a Summer Camp Director who is responsible for developing, facilitating, and overseeing all aspects of the Chabot Summer Science Camp program.  The six-week program features four different science and engineering themes: Mars Adventure, Operation Moon Base, Camp Create, and Eco-Animation.  
Designed for students entering grades 1-6, each week-long camp will provide immersive, hands-on learning experiences combining science, engineering, and outdoor explorations to develop problem-solving skills as well as science understanding.  The camp serves 360-400 elementary students with alignment to the Next Generation Science Standards and Common Core State Standards.
This position reports to the Director of Education.

Essential Functions:
Oversee camp program development and implementation
Lead regular planning meetings
Conceptualize and implement camp curricula
Manage camp registration and marketing
Oversee staff training, policies, and camp safety
Supervise and evaluate summer camp staff, including instructors (9), counselors (4), high school interns (8), and volunteers (8).
Oversee budget, ordering, and management of materials/equipment
Handle daily camp needs and emergencies
Interact with parents and family members
Perform other duties as assigned

Bachelor’s degree in science, education, or relevant subject
Minimum 3 years of teaching or other educational experience working with elementary age students
Minimum 3 years of administrative or supervisor experience in an educational setting
Knowledge of content areas and best practices in formal and informal science education
Experience working in a summer camp setting or similar program
Knowledge and experience with best practices related to curriculum design, pedagogy, student management, and program management
Strong organizational skills; ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
Excellent communication, presentation, problem solving, interpersonal, and customer service skills. 
Ability to collaborate with education staff and volunteers to develop programs that support instruction
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
Ability to effectively participate in department and cross-departmental project teams
Ability to set priorities and work on multiple projects simultaneously
Ability to speak in front of different audiences
Ability to model excellent teaching practices
Proficient in Windows OS, Microsoft Office, GSuite Apps
