Internships

Chabot Space & Science Center offers unpaid internships each year. Interns work directly with Chabot staff toward a goal of creating a world-class education and entertainment experience. Duties are varied and individuals will be matched to assignments based on fields of interest and the needs of the Science Center.

Who can apply?

Internships are designed for undergraduate students who have completed a minimum of one year of study (or the equivalent), graduate students, recent graduates (no more than two years out of school), and career-changers currently enrolled in a degree program.

Time commitment

Chabot Space & Science Center internships are 3 - 6 months long (full or part time). However, the duration and hours required may vary depending on internship area. International students are invited to apply. College credit may be available through your college or university.

    Under limited supervision, oversees planning, development, coordination, implementation, and management of the Science Center's infrastructure and information technology systems, including business operation systems, building management systems, elevators, domestic water, gas, electrical, sanitary, sewer, and storm drainage systems. Manages the maintenance of the centers classrooms, labs, theaters, AV, information technology and common spaces.     In support of Chabot Space & Science Center's strategic plan and department goals and objectives, the Public Programs Coordinator is responsible for planning and delivery of programs, events and activities for public audiences in order to increase CSSC attendance and revenue. Working directly with the Visitor Engagement Manager, responsibilities include daily coordination of 18-month rolling calendar, working with adult volunteers, and appropriate visitor experience staff to develop and deliver public programs, events and activities. This role supports the day-to-day delivery of "wow" customer service combined with fun and unique public programs. This role helps to maintain relationships with community partner in support of unique program delivery. The Public Programs Coordinator provides day-to-day coordination across multi-departmental staff. A thorough understanding of Chabot's primary and secondary audiences is essential to creating an unforgettable experience for new and returning visitors. Programs are expected to incorporate current events (local and national), everyday science, as well sciences unique to Chabot to attract audiences who might not otherwise be interested in science. Position is responsible for the implementation of public programs from planning to evaluation. Formal evaluation of program effectiveness and goal achievement in terms of attendance participation and revenue generation is an essential responsibility of this position.
