Senior Program Manager
Want to make a difference in a girl's future? Techbridge is an innovative program to inspire girls in technology, science and engineering through hands-on projects, career exploration opportunities, and trainings and resources for teachers, role models and families. Under the supervision of the Project Director, the Sr. Program Manager is responsible for overseeing the implementation and evaluation of the after-school and summer programs, leading the strategy and development of curriculum, supporting and supervising staff, and overseeing planning and delivery of trainings to teachers and role models.
After-school programs are hosted at elementary, middle, and high schools in Oakland and other Bay Area school districts. Girls work on a variety of hands-on projects such as engineering design challenges, computer programming using Scratch, and chemical engineering projects. Career exploration is an integral component of the program, and includes visits with role models and field trips to worksites and universities.
The ideal candidate has practical and proven leadership experience, excellent partnership and relationship management skills, strong technical and science skills, sound judgment, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills. As part of Techbridge’s leadership team, the Sr. Program Manager is expected to play a key role in overseeing execution and guiding the strategic direction of the program.
Responsiblities
Provide programmatic leadership and administrative oversight of Techbridge’s local community programs. Duties include:
Program Management
- Oversee effective planning and implementation of after-school programs.
- Oversee planning and delivery of summer programs, including Summer Academy and Summer Institute for educators.
- Foster relationships with principals, teachers, after-school program providers and others.
- Develop teacher contract and procedural manual and review with teachers.
- Oversee planning and hosting of family events at school sites; identify and develop resources for families.
- Oversee protocols and procedures in alignment with school district policies.
- Develop and cultivate partnerships with role models, corporations, universities and other partners.
- Manage evaluation process and work with external evaluator to develop evaluation plan and quantitative and qualitative tools, including pre and post surveys, interviews, focus groups and observations. Oversee evaluation of students, teachers, families and role models.
- Conduct on-site program observations and provide reviews to staff and teachers.
- Supervise and support staff to foster sense of teamwork, commitment and community; cultivate and maintain competent staff and quality services. Identify and support professional development opportunities for staff.
- Manage budget for community programs, including tracking grant spending against budget, monitoring variances and forecasting fiscal year budgets.
Curriculum Development
- Develop curriculum strategy and oversee development, testing and refinement of new and innovative science, engineering and technology curriculum for girls.
- Keep abreast of new technologies, skills and industry trends to incorporate into design of Techbridge curriculum.
- Enhance and refine existing curriculum to increase rigor of science inquiry.
- Design, format and package curriculum to be used within Techbridge programs and with partner groups.
Trainings
- Oversee development of training workshops for teachers. Identify training and technical assistance needs of teachers.
- Oversee recruitment and training of role models and partners, including corporations, educational institutions, girl-serving organizations, and other non-profit groups or associations.
Research and Dissemination
- Keep up with research on gender equity and programs and resources in technology, science, and engineering for girls.
- Participate in development and facilitation of training sessions at conferences for educators, industry groups, professionals and partner organizations.
- Provide on-going consultation and support to partners on effective best practices and curriculum for promoting girls’ in technology.
- Participate in and promote Techbridge at events such as Expanding Your Horizons, Sally Ride Science Festivals, and other mission-related initiatives.
- Help develop and disseminate resources and research through professional publications, conference presentations, and workshops.
Strategy and Communications
- Work with senior staff to identify areas for program support and growth and provide input; assist with grant writing as needed; and support and participate in donor cultivation activities.
- Oversee promotion of programs, including effective written and printed materials and events that support programs.
- Manage administrative and budgetary aspects of programs to support the effective operation of programs, along with reporting, documentation, data gathering, evaluation
Perform other duties as needed and/or assigned.
Requirements
- Demonstrated commitment to the mission and goals of Techbridge.
- Minimum 5-7 years experience in science-related education. This experience should preferably include the design and management of science, technology or engineering programs for girls, specifically for diverse populations within urban school settings.
- Demonstrated supervisory and staff development experience required.
- Strong technical skills and the ability to quickly learn new programs; science, technology and/or engineering background required.
- Curriculum development experience in science, engineering or technology required.
- High level of cultural competence.
- Experience with program evaluation.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to think critically.
- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent presentation, training & facilitation skills.
- Must be resourceful, self-motivated, creative, and flexible.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Knowledge and experience in teacher education.
- Must possess a valid California Drivers License with clean DMV; proof of insurance and reliable transportation.
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree strongly preferred.
Compensation
Salary for this position is commensurate with other non-profit organizations and will be commensurate with experience.
