Chabot Space & Science Center is a nonprofit interactive science center whose mission is to inspire and educate students of all ages about Planet Earth and the Universe. Chabot began as an astronomical observatory and has a 133-year legacy of serving Bay Area communities. In 2000, the Center relocated to the Oakland hills in a new facility, offering exhibits, public programs, class rooms, school field trips and community outreach. Chabot is going through an exciting and dynamic period of transition. Under the visionary leadership of a new Executive Director/CEO, and with $1.5 million in support from two Bay area philanthropies, Chabot has embarked on a two-year phase of strategic planning and institutional transformation.

Chabot Space & Science Center offers unpaid internships each year. Interns work directly with Chabot staff toward a goal of creating a world-class education and entertainment experience. Duties are varied and individuals will be matched to assignments based on fields of interest and the needs of the Science Center.
Who can apply?
Internships are designed for undergraduate students who have completed a minimum of one year of study (or the equivalent), graduate students, recent graduates (no more than two years out of school), and career-changers currently enrolled in a degree program.
Chabot Space & Science Center internships are 3 - 6 months long (full or part time). However, the duration and hours required may vary depending on internship area. International students are invited to apply. College credit may be available through your college or university.

Board Liaison/Executive Assistant
Under general supervision the Board Liaison/Executive Assistant independently manages and oversees the activities of the executive department. Acts as the primary point of contact for both internal and external constituencies on all matters pertaining to the Executive Director.
Director of Advancement
Chabot Space and Science Center seeks an innovative professional with superb interpersonal, written and verbal communications skills to lead all aspects of the Center’s fundraising and external affairs program. This challenging opportunity will provide the right individual with many opportunities to thrive in a leadership role, impacting the strategy and development of the Center. Reporting to the new Executive Director/CEO, the Director of Advancement will design and implement annual and programmatic fundraising campaigns, working closely with the Board of Directors and Center staff.
Education Programs Coordinator
The Education Programs Coordinator serves as the main point of contact for groups interested in booking programs with the Science Center. Programs include school field trips, teacher workshops, outreach programs and public education workshops. The Education Programs Coordinator takes the lead role in assigning staff resources to leading programs, as well as booking room and lab spaces for programs and internal staff use. This position is responsible for scheduling and keeping records of all pre-K to 12th grade science center education programs at Chabot.
Public Programs Intern
Chabot Space & Science Center has an exciting opportunity for an upbeat, energetic individual with an excellent work ethic that is interested in gaining experience in event/ public programming coordination. The ideal candidate will possess excellent organizational skills, display great customer service skills and have a pro-active, positive can-do attitude. Responsibilities include assisting the Public Programs Coordinators in the organization, preparation and delivery of public events.
Senior Sales & Events Coordinator
Visitor Experience & Education
Chabot Space & Science Center has an excellent career opportunity for a highly motivated, detail-oriented professional with a passion for sales. This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual who likes to take ownership, deliver excellent customer service, and have fun in their work. The ideal candidate will be able to work a flexible schedule including nights and/or weekends. The Senior Sales & Events Coordinator is an integral position within the Visitor Experience Department and is responsible for all aspects of cultivating, selling, booking, scheduling, and coordinating Chabot’s group sales, facility rental and other revenue generating events. This position involves creating an unforgettable experience for new and returning visitors and supporting the day-to-day delivery of “wow” customer service combined with identifying and delivering new and returning sales opportunities.
As an institution with over 130 years of rich history, you will be a component of a dynamic, hardworking and fun team that collaborates with multiple departments to promote sales and achieve or surpass earned revenue budget projections for scout groups and birthday parties.
Reporting to the Visitor Experience Sales Manager, this position is responsible for all aspects of cultivating, selling, booking, scheduling, and coordinating Chabot’s facility rentals and other revenue generating events. This is a leadership role that will also identify and deliver new and returning sales opportunities fulfilling the company’s strategic plan. This positon will also be responsible for growing the business and coordinating revenue and promotional events to drive exposure and awareness.
Special Events Intern
Chabot Space & Science Center has an exciting opportunity for an upbeat, energetic individual with an excellent work ethic that is interested in gaining experience in Sales and Events. The ideal candidate will possess excellent organizational skills, display great customer service skills and have a pro-active, positive can-do attitude. Responsibilities include assisting the Sales and Events Coordinators in the organization, preparation and delivery of facility rentals, corporate events, public events, group sales, overnights, scout programs and team building activities.
Visitor Experience Associate
The Chabot Space & Science Center is seeking outgoing, service-oriented individuals to join its Box Office Team.
This front-line position is responsible for creating a world-class experience for our guests from the minute they walk in the door. The ideal candidate is flexible, versatile, an excellent problem solver, collaborative and able to multi-task.
The Visitor Experience Associate is expected to demonstrate excellent customer service and professionalism when interacting with guests, staff, and volunteers.
This is a part-time, on-call position. The schedule includes weekends, evenings, and holidays.
Key functions of this role include, but are not limited to:
Box Office sales
- Planetarium show ushering and operation
- Special events support
Staring wage is $12.55/hour
