Chabot Space & Science Center has been a leader in advancing a scientifically literate society for more than 135 years. Chabot provides Northern Californian children with access to STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) programs.

Exhibition Halls, Theaters and Observatories

140,000 visitors annually are inspired at our 80,000 sq. ft. facility by interactive exhibits, classes, and shows in our digital, full-dome Planetarium and MegaDome Theater.

Our three telescopes provide the largest public observatory in the nation.

Student, Teacher and Outreach Programs

  • 50,000 K-12 students learn science in standards-based classes and exhibits
  • More than 200 teens from across the Bay Area and 60 middle schoolers from Title 1 schools in Oakland are trained year-round as science educators in our Galaxy Explorers and Champions of Science programs
  • Teachers from Oakland schools participate in academic year teacher development workshops around Next Generation Science standards
