Social Media Intern

The Social Media Intern is an unpaid role that works alongside the Marketing & Community Manager and Institutional Advancement department to help create and sustain Chabot Space & Science Center presence in the social media arena. Use your creativity, research and technical skills, to enhance the quality of our social media channels. This is an excellent opportunity to bring and gain experience in marketing and social networking for a nonprofit organization.

The Social Media Intern must have a true passion for social media, technology, trends and innovation in the digital and social space and must have remarkable writing skills.

Responsibilities

  • Daily  social media updates
  • Write and post engaging as well as informative content
  • Post articles and events on community calendars
  • Research new social media channels
  • Assist with the development of Chabot's  Facebook timeline page
  • Assist with other marketing and communication projects, per department needs

Requirements

  • Some experience in marketing, communication, or journalism, or working towards a degree in a related field
  • High level of organization, flexibility and problem solving
  • Excellent project and time management skills
  • Excellent communications skills; verbal, written and listening
  • Strong writing skills
  • Ability to take initiative and possess excellent follow through
  • Projects may use the following skills: Microsoft Office – Word & Excel, phone, copier, writing/editing, in-person and telephone networking, internet research, and a great personality
  • Awareness and sensitivity in interacting with diverse populations

  • Self-Starter: can take direction and implement tasks with moderate oversight
  • Creative: can think outside the box and bring new concepts to tasks
  • Passion: for technology, for communications, and for science
  • Enthusiasm: to market and position CSSC in the social media area

Training

  • Orientation & training provided by Marketing Manager

Schedule

  • Monday - Friday shifts. Nights and weekends. 
  • Minimum commitment: 15-20 hours/week. Weekly commitment preferred.

This is an unpaid position.
