Discovery Lab Facilitator

Position Summary

This position is responsible for the general supervision and management of Chabot’s Discovery Lab. The Facilitator would work with children age 7 and under, their parents or caregivers.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement the daily program activities of the Discovery Lab.
  • Prepare the learning environment, including set-up, preparing needed materials and supplies, inventorying and ordering materials and supplies, initiating necessary repairs and monitoring condition of equipment and furnishings.
  • Supervise and promote activities designed to enhance the healthy emotional, social, intellectual, and physical development of children visiting the Discovery Lab.
  • Interact with and monitor children and parent/caregiver activities.
  • Schedule and supervise Discovery Lab volunteers and interns
  • Monitor condition of lab including materials organization, safe conditions for visitors and cleanup of public and staff areas.
  • Report any problem that may occur with the children and/or their parents/caregivers.
  • Prep Discovery Lab space prior to opening and clean up room after closing each day.
  • Maintain and improve organization of supplies and equipment in prep room.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Previous experience working with children in an educational setting. 
  • Interest in art, science, media, or early childhood education helpful
  • Excellent oral communication skills.  Flexible team player and problem solver.
  • Must be able to lift 30lbs, occasionally climb ladder to storage.
  • Flexible to work holiday periods and weekend hours, punctual, and reliable.

Education/Qualifications: Preferred or Desirable

  • Coursework in Early Childhood Education 
  • Training in first aid and/or CPR for children and infants 

Schedule and Pay Rate

  • On-Call during School Year, Part time to full time available in Summer
