Projectionist

Position Summary

Responsible for the presentation of large format films to school and public audiences. Maintains and repairs projection systems as required. Oversees the upgrade and expansion of theater capabilities working with outside vendors as appropriate. Should provide forward thinking ideas to align theater with industry standards.

Responsibilities

Public Shows:

  • Present large format films to School and public audiences in Tien MegaDome Theater
  • Assist with and facilitate presentations in the theater and planetarium including audio-visual elements (microphones, DVD, videotape, CD, audiotape, computer, etc.)
  • Present digital shows in Ask Jeeves Planetarium as required
  • Collaborate with the Planetarium & Theater Manager, programs and marketing staff, and curriculum planners to identify programming appropriate for K-12 education and the general public

Maintenance and Training:

  • Perform routine and major cleaning and maintenance of projection and film transport equipment
  • Maintain inventory of spare parts and expendables for continued film operations
  • Train other staff members in the use and operation of theater systems
  • Cooperate with theater staff and vendors in the installation, testing, upgrading, maintenance, diagnosis and repair of all hardware and software relating to the theater
  • Participate in general housekeeping and facility maintenance efforts for the theater

Other:

  • Assist and support in various Audio Visual support efforts throughout the facility
  • Inform Chabot staff of necessary facilities maintenance and repairs or other impacts upon normal operations
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Reports to Theater Manager
  • Knowledge and general understanding of theater industry standards and future directions
  • Skill in photography and digital imaging.
  • Knowledge and understanding of computer hardware and applications, projection and audio equipment, control systems and other specialized technologies.

Compensation

Hourly salary for this position is commensurate with other non-profit organizations and will be commensurate with experience.
