Summer Hike Series at Chabot!

Join us for hikes through our redwoods! Trail walks are led by an experienced hiker and Chabot educator and feature discussions about the natural environment, events, and objects in the sky.

Family Hike

4:00pm – 5:00pm
$12 Non-Member, $10 Members
2-3 miles

Bring the whole family along as we take a gentle walk among the majestic redwoods to the highest point in Oakland, Redwood Peak. While hiking we will explore evidence of ancient trees from 2,000 years ago, uncover markers from the early settlers from the 1800s and learn about the local plants and animals that live in the forest.

4-5 mile hike

The journey begins at sunset from the Center into the beautiful surrounding redwood forest. We’ll hike along some of the most popular trails and learn about local history as we uncover evidence from early settlers and will examine local plants as we discuss the ecology of the forest. Moon glazing, planet-hunting and seeing the moonrise on the horizon will cap off the evening. Stay late on our observation deck to see Mars as it will be closer in the night’s sky allowing for optimal viewing – weather permitting.
