Really Cool Experiences Happen After Dark

Chabot offers many wonderful experiences, many of them After Dark. Whether you are looking for a unique date night experience or a fun place to search for galaxies and nebula, Chabot has something for everyone. We are open late every Friday and Saturday evenings and feature telescope viewing from our three giant telescopes, weather permitting of course. In addition, we will have special events, lectures and parties for many occasions including group events and corporate team building.

From time to time we rent out our Center for weddings, corporate holiday parties and private events. Check our calendar for those dates.

    Enjoy a hike through the beautiful redwoods! After the hike, stay and explore other amazing objects in the night sky through our telescopes (weather permitting) or tour the Telescope Makers Workshop. Hike will take place rain or shine.

    This summer, lay on the grass and look up at the stars! Bring your sleeping bags and blankets and come listen to an expert stargazer explain the mythology behind the constellations, stories from the night sky as seen throughout history and look for planets and other clues to help orient you to the night's sky.

    Please note: Weather permitting for outside viewing. If night sky conditions are or become poor for viewing the program will take place inside one of our historic telescope domes. Please check our weather station for more day-of details or call us at (510) 336-7373 for more information. Don't forget to bring your blankets!

    Adult Missions in the Challenger Learning Center®
    Flyers must be 21+
    Tickets: $30 (does not include general admission)
    Just like our public missions for families, but this one is strictly for adult flyers. Bring your friends and join an intrepid team to land on the red planet, construct a probe to send to one of the moons of Mars and save your crew from calamity. Grab your flight suit, strap on a helmet and experience the thrill and excitement of a NASA simulated space mission to Mars! Beer (provided by Federation Brewery), wine and light snacks will be provided.

You and your date will be transported to a world of space travel inside Chabot Space & Science Center's exclusive and interactive onsite mission control and space craft simulator.     Each Sunday preceding the 1st quarter moon, the Eastbay Astronomical Society invites you to a special private telescope viewing. Unlike our regular viewing on Friday and Saturday evenings, EAS personalizes the experience by taking viewing requests, live interaction, and hosting tours and it's exclusively for our members!

    A Startling Evening of Mad Science
    Join Bay Area business, community, and philanthropic leaders in supporting Chabot's work to inspire and educate the next generation of scientists, engineers, and global thinkers.

    This evening will include a reception featuring a mad scientist mixologist creating concoctions that will stimulate your neurons. Grace Street Catering will prepare an out-of-this world dinner carefully paired with wine to delight your taste buds, followed by a live auction. Weather permitting, we will end the night with an exclusive telescope viewing on our Observatory Deck.

    Chabot Space & Science Center's observatory deck will host a view to a rare and beautiful astronomical event, a Total Lunar Eclipse. Adding to the splendor, this eclipse coincides with a "Super Moon," when the Moon is at its closest to the Earth, and looms large in the sky. Enjoy the spectacle in good company as the fully eclipsed Moon rises above the tree line of the East Bay Hills.

    Carleen Cullen: Warming the Bench
    Climate science tells us that our climate is changing. The question is, why aren�t we? Research shows that more than half of all Americans believe in anthropogenic climate change yet energy consumption remains high and introducing sustainable solutions has been limited. Every good coach knows that the players on the bench need to be ready too-we need to warm the bench and get civil scientists into the game. In this talk, Cullen looks at commercial and behavioral science approaches, highlighting opportunities to engage the American public in their personal actions reducing energy usage, building green markets, and shifting legislative thinking.
