After Dark

Really Cool Experiences Happen After Dark

Chabot offers many wonderful experiences, many of them After Dark. Whether you are looking for a unique date night experience or a fun place to search for galaxies and nebula, Chabot has something for everyone. We are open late every Friday and Saturday evenings and feature telescope viewing from our three giant telescopes, weather permitting of course. In addition, we will have special events, lectures and parties for many occasions including group events and corporate team building.

From time to time we rent out our Center for weddings, corporate holiday parties and private events. Check our calendar for those dates.

    Tickets: $30 (does not include general admission)
    Nothing says date night like a trip to the red planet! Whether a first date or your long time sweetie, you and your date will be transported to a world of space travel inside Chabot’s interactive mission control and space craft simulator. Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to land safely on the planet Mars and launch a probe to one of Mars' two moons.  Beer, wine and light snacks will be provided, but arrive on time as the agenda is tight in Mission Control!  

    (Minimum of 14 participants required per mission)

    Enjoy a hike through the beautiful redwoods! After the hike, stay and explore other amazing objects in the night sky through our telescopes (weather permitting) or tour the Telescope Makers Workshop. Hike will take place rain or shine.

    Take your sweetheart on a memorable date – dinner under the stars then whisk her/him away on a simulated space mission to the Red Planet!  Adventure awaits as you work on an exclusive team with other couples to rescue the space transport capsule from calamity! You and your date will be transported to a world of space travel inside Chabot Space & Science Center’s exclusive and interactive onsite mission control and space craft simulator.  The adventure includes romantic music, hands on assignments, beer and wine, and sweets for your sweet. Arrive on time things are precise in Mission Control!

    Each Sunday preceding the 1st quarter moon, the Eastbay Astronomical Society invites you to a special private telescope viewing. Unlike our regular viewing on Friday and Saturday evenings, EAS personalizes the experience by taking viewing requests, live interaction, and hosting tours and it's exclusively for our members!

    Join us in the Planetarium for a performance by The ClimateMusic Project, a science & arts collaborative that uses music to teach people about climate change in a fresh and engaging way. The collaborative is made up of leading climate scientists and versatile artists who pull from terabytes of climate data and the most advanced climate models to create music that reflects the story of our climate, past, present, and future.  Following the performance, you will have the opportunity to engage the scientists, composer, and musicians in a live discussion and Q&A session.

    Scott Hutchins is a former Truman Capote fellow in the Wallace Stegner Program at Stanford University, where he teaches Creative Writing. His work has been featured in numerous publications including the New York Times, San Francisco Magazine and StoryQuarterly. During his talk Hutchins will explore the intersection of science and science fiction in his debut novel and San Francisco Chronicle’s Best Book of 2012, A Working Theory of Love.
