We offer many exciting opportunities for kids to get involved, get excited and get engaged! Check out our Discovery Lab, submit a question to a real life Astronomer or Scientist, take a photo in our replica Gemini Transport Capsule, participate in a demonstration, celebrate a birthday or look through a telescope at the same stars that kids looked at over a hundred years ago. Kids can bring their parents to our Tykes Explorers Workshops, participate in Space & Science Camp, or vanquish energy vampires in our Bills Climate Lab online game and much more.

Think, build, test, destroy... do it all over again and again! We're hosting open LEGO Laboratories every Sunday with an engineering challenge focus. Challenges vary each week and include solar car building and racing, creating green machines that impact our environment, robots that perform based on your programming, and bridge building with seismic testing. Builders of all ages and skills are welcome. Active parent participation is required for youth under 10 years.

Check out Chabot’s second Black Hole Friday where we explore one of the most mind-bending phenomenon in the Universe. Immersed in a field of stars accompanied by the visual and auditory re-creation of a black hole and the abstract equations that describe it, this is a sensory-rich experience. Engage in a variety of black hole related demonstrations throughout the Center and don’t forget to stop by Destination Universe to step into our Black Hole.

In this other worldly, hands-on whodunit , participants will solve a celestial caper using crime scene forensics and scientific methods. Super sleuths will conduct tests on evidence using microscopes, chemistry experiments and other cool lab activities to identify the crafty culprit from several "participant/suspects”. Could the guilty thief be you or your parent? Come and find out…if you dare.
Special surprises will delight on Black Hole Friday.
Recommended for ages 5-adult—children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.

Geocaching is a worldwide treasure hunt that utilizes a handheld GPS unit, a good set of eyes and a bit of hiking around. It’s a fun adventure game where you solve the challenges at each turn of the trail. Did you know that there are Geocaches around you right now? Our experienced staff will guide you as you learn how to use a GPS for Geocaching.

A young boy embarks on a magical adventure to the North Pole on the Polar Express. During his adventure he learns about friendship, bravery, and the spirit of Christmas.
You have been chosen for a space mission! Before liftoff, you are required to go through training. As an astronaut in training during this station based lab, you will put your skills to the test through a variety of exercises, test your fine motor skills while wearing a simulated spacesuit, collect your own physiological data and create your own mission patch!

Ring in the New Year without staying up all night! Come to Chabot and celebrate strokes of midnight from around the world at 11am, 1pm, and 4pm! Kids count down and catch hundreds of colorful balloons as they drop from the ceiling and participate in fun activities to receive a special prize. Join Chabot as we honor those astronauts lost on the Challenger Space Shuttle the morning of January 28, 1986. Learn what it’s like to prepare for a mission to space in our astronaut training lab, discover some of the lessons developed by Christa McAuliffe (intended to be the first teacher in space), learn about space travel with demonstrations throughout the Center, and even take a simulated mission to Mars.
A Playdate for the Imagination
Chabot Space & Science Center and the Bay Area International Children's Film Festival have joined forces to present the 8th annual Playdate for the Imagination, where education and imagination collide. In its 8th year, BAICFF celebrates the moveable melody of the figure 8 with a Movement and Music theme. These two inseparable aspects of cinema and childhood will be explored and showcased with special performances, film screenings and events that ignite the imagination for a truly memorable kinetic experience. Participate in hands on workshops and have a fun family day at Chabot!

Pluto, everyone's favorite underdog among the planets, has long been an icon of dark mystery and murky expectation. Until now. In 2015, NASA made first contact with not only Pluto, but also Ceres, two of our solar system's dwarf planets. Join us on an adventure of a lifetime as we follow the New Horizons and Dawn missions, which have revealed to us that no matter what call them, these small and beautiful objects are small worlds, after all.
To the Moon... with no return? This new planetarium show follows the excitement of the Google Lunar XPRIZE competition. The ultimate example of citizen science, the winning team will successfully land a robotic spacecraft on the Moon, have it travel 500 meters on the surface, and send back video imagery.
