Visitor Experience Associate

Chabot Space & Science Center is seeking a dynamic, creative and enthusiastic Visitor Experience Associate to provide a "wow" experience, in delivery of service and experience for public visitors in support of Chabot's mission and achievement of its strategic goals. This highly visible position is responsible for direct contact with our visitors on a daily basis. Flexibility and versatility is key to this role as no two days are the same. The ideal candidate is engaging, fun, outgoing, innovative, an excellent problem solver, collaborative and able to multi-task. As assigned by Visitor Experience Coordinator or Shift Lead, the Visitor Experience Associate will respond to ever fluid operational needs by providing excellent customer service.

The Visitor Experience Associate is expected to demonstrate excellent customer service and professionalism when interacting with guests, staff, and volunteers.

This is a part-time, on-call position. Must be available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Admissions desk operations including selling of tickets, memberships, advanced tickets, phone inquiries and group tickets
  • Delivery of birthday activities & programs
  • Ushering and planetarium show operations
  • Narration of planetarium show scripts
  • Remote ticket kiosk operation
  • Overnight Host
  • Special event operations
  • Duties as assigned

Responsibilities

Cheerfully greet and welcome visitors to the Center, answer questions, assist visitors with planning their visit, ticket sales and center activities.

Accurately and efficiently complete sales and accurately maintain all cash and media at the registers. Comply with established Company policies and standards, such as safekeeping of Company funds and property, personnel practices, security, ticket sales, and record-keeping procedures.

Promote Membership during interactions with visitors: Demonstrate knowledge of membership benefits, process membership sales, and assist with general membership questions.Greet and check-in birthday parties, groups, and scouts. Provide client with an overview of their visit.

Act as host for client to ensure an excellent experience.

Deliver and lead birthday party activities.

Work with children, their parents or caregivers, and scout leaders.

Addresses any problems that may arise with visitors.

Assist in resolution of ticket and seating problems and contact supervisor if necessary.

Inspect public areas to ensure safe conditions and cleanliness, and notify supervisor of any problems.

Display knowledge of planetarium programs, memberships, exhibits, public programs, school programs, and special events in order to answer visitors' questions.

Maintain the appearance of box office and front of house area including workstations, counters, storage areas, brochures, signage, stanchions, and overall cleanliness of the front desk.

Utilize seating chart to seat school groups within an assigned area in the planetarium.Serve as planetarium operator for assigned programs.

Responsibilities include ushering, ensuring programs begin at scheduled time, making show announcements, and complying with established planetarium safety procedures

Assist in cleaning the planetarium during and following each performance.

Ensure planetarium doors are locked and secured at the end of each shift.

Communicate and collaborate with team members including supervisor providing suggestions and ideas for how to take the overall visitor experience to the next level.

Perform light clerical duties and other duties as assigned.

Follow all Chabot safety regulations

Team player

Knowledge of Vista ticketing systems a plus.

Ability to operate a computerized cash register.

Knowledge of basic cash management procedures.

Ability to prepare routine administrative paperwork and write correspondence.

Flexibility and calm under pressure in handling customer concerns/questions in a timely manner.

Able to work independently and show initiative.

Excellent verbal, written and listening communication skills.

Able to work in a busy, fast paced environment, juggling more than one project.

Engaging and professional demeanor.

Ability to speak effectively before groups or individuals.

Typing skills a must.

Conversational Spanish ability a plus.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED with 6 months to 1- year experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Honesty, reliability and integrity required.

Commitment to excellent customer service.

Exceptional public speaking skills required.

Excellent listening and communications skills required.

Compensation

Hourly salary for this position is commensurate with other non-profit organizations and will be commensurate with experience.
