Public Programs Coordinator
In support of Chabot Space & Science Center's strategic plan and department goals and objectives, the Public Programs Coordinator is responsible for planning and delivery of programs, events and activities for public audiences in order to increase CSSC attendance and revenue. Working directly with the Visitor Engagement Manager, responsibilities include daily coordination of 18-month rolling calendar, working with adult volunteers, and appropriate visitor experience staff to develop and deliver public programs, events and activities. This role supports the day-to-day delivery of "wow" customer service combined with fun and unique public programs. This role helps to maintain relationships with community partner in support of unique program delivery. The Public Programs Coordinator provides day-to-day coordination across multi-departmental staff. A thorough understanding of Chabot's primary and secondary audiences is essential to creating an unforgettable experience for new and returning visitors. Programs are expected to incorporate current events (local and national), everyday science, as well sciences unique to Chabot to attract audiences who might not otherwise be interested in science. Position is responsible for the implementation of public programs from planning to evaluation. Formal evaluation of program effectiveness and goal achievement in terms of attendance participation and revenue generation is an essential responsibility of this position.
Help to develop, and implement new programs and activities including design, budget, and evaluation.
Manage day-to-day planning for unique public programs that deliver a "wow" experience for new and returning visitors and generate revenue to achieve strategic goals.
Engage, negotiate and nurture strategic community partnerships for delivery of public activities.
Help to develop and coordinate all aspects of public programming, pricing, timing and flow, including writing copy and communications with marketing team.
Coordinate with Visitor Experience Manager to ensure appropriate floor staff assignments and needs.
Coordinate with Activity Guides as well as specific staff for programs, events and activities as determined.
Schedule and coordinate staff, adult volunteers and community partners for delivery of public programs.
Facilitate center activities and logistics communications with cross functional departments.
Prepare evaluations and report on public programs as appropriate.
Thoroughly understand appropriate program audience through research, direct interaction, surveys and observation.
With direct supervision from Visitor Engagement Manager and the needs of Visitor Experience team, develop, deliver and analyze visitor surveys.
Maintain detailed project files with contacts, correspondence, contracts, logistics, audience research, purchasing documents, reports, and other materials pertinent to each program.

Demonstrated leadership, management and organizational skills
Creativity and cleverness in order to create and execute dynamic and fun programs and activities for public audiences with limited resources.
Ideal candidate is a "people" person, who genuinely enjoys visitors and delivering excellent customer service.
Excellent communications skills; written, oral and listening.
Demonstrated budget experience including analysis and reporting.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple and complex projects with minimal supervision.
Ability to coordinate several major activities at once while analyzing and resolving challenges.
Strong interpersonal and diplomatic skills; ability to work well with all levels of staff, contractors, and volunteers.
Demonstrated initiative, follow-through and problem-solving skills.
Ability to juggle multiple projects, prioritize, delegate and work well under pressure.
Computer literate; proficient in the use of MS Word, Excel, MS Outlook, Ticketmaster Vista or other client relationship database expertise preferred.
Experience in sales, retail, customer service, hospitality, museums or amusement park industries ideal
Schedule flexes based on program calendar and schedule, must be available to work daytime, weekends and nights as appropriate.
Salary for this position is commensurate with other non-profit organizations and will be commensurate with experience.
