Normal Admission until 5pm, Free after 7:30 pm on our Observatory Deck

Asteroid Day is a global awareness campaign to educate people around the world about asteroids, the impact hazard they may pose, and what we can do to protect our planet, families, communities, and future generations from asteroid impacts.  Asteroid Day is held each year on the anniversary of the largest impact in recent history, the 1908 Tunguska event in Siberia.

To celebrate Asteroid Day, and to recognize the importance of near-Earth asteroids, Chabot will have fun, family-friendly hands-on activities and planetarium shows in the Center during the day that demonstrate what asteroids are and what we can do to detect them.  Later in the evening, at 8:30pm, learn how our very own Chabot Astronomers search for and track near-Earth asteroids and their role in the global effort to defend the Earth. See the actual telescope named Nellie that Chabot astronomers use to detects these objects, and learn more with asteroid inspired demonstrations.
