Join a dynamic team dedicated to creating a world-class education and entertainment experience. Chabot Space & Science Center volunteers work in a unique and vibrant environment that combines a beautiful park setting with sophisticated technology. You can make astronomy and science come alive for visitors from around the Bay Area and the world. No science or astronomy background needed - extensive training opportunities available.

Volunteers at Chabot significantly outnumber staff. There are many volunteer positions awaiting people eager to share the wonders of the universe with our visitors. Volunteers primarily work in our exhibits, on our observatory deck, in our classrooms and with special events. Through ongoing training and volunteer experience, you can become qualified in almost any aspect of Chabot's operation.

The Details
Chabot Space & Science Center is an interactive facility. It is vitally important that volunteers are comfortable dealing with the public, and enjoy engaging adults and children of all ages in our exhibits and facility.

There are two primary adult volunteer roles at Chabot Space & Science Center…

1)      CHABOT SPECIALISTS:  These are direct service positions that focus on the support and inspiration of visitors who visit the science center.

Minimum Requirements:  A regular commitment of at least 8 hours per month and either one year or 90 hours of service is required for these positions

2)      CHABOT AMBASSADORS:   For individuals who are not able to make the full time commitment and/or prefer a different type of volunteer role within the organization, this is a great alternative way to get involved!

Minimum Requirements:  A commitment of 4 hours per month for a minimum of 1 year or 45 hours is required for this position.  Chabot Specialists are able to volunteer for special events and projects at any time.   For more information on moving between volunteer roles, please speak with the Volunteer Manager.
