Internships

Chabot Space & Science Center offers unpaid internships each year. Interns work directly with Chabot staff toward a goal of creating a world-class education and entertainment experience. Duties are varied and individuals will be matched to assignments based on fields of interest and the needs of the Science Center.

Who can apply?

Internships are designed for undergraduate students who have completed a minimum of one year of study (or the equivalent), graduate students, recent graduates (no more than two years out of school), and career-changers currently enrolled in a degree program.

Time commitment

Chabot Space & Science Center internships are 3 - 6 months long (full or part time). However, the duration and hours required may vary depending on internship area. International students are invited to apply. College credit may be available through your college or university.

    Under the supervision of the Volunteer Program Manager, the Youth Development Coordinator supports theoperations and coordination of Chabot’s two teen development programs, with an emphasis on the GalaxyExplorer Program. The Youth Development Coordinator ensures that goals with both programs and being metand works to develop and implement teen enrichment as well as the scheduling, training and supervision ofteen volunteers. This position also acts as an additional point of contact for the adult volunteers, assistingthat program’s staff where needed.

    “Champions of Science” is an afterschool enrichment program for Oakland Unified School District middleschool students who come from historically underrepresented backgrounds. CoS has two primary goals: (1) tointerest and retain students' knowledge and excitement in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering andMath) subjects and potential careers at a critical time in adolescent development; and (2) to create a pipelineto Chabot’s high school community service and internship program, the Galaxy Explorers.

    The Galaxy Explorers represent Chabot Space & Science Center on-site and throughout the greater Bay Area.Galaxy Explorers perform live public science demonstrations, explain interactive exhibits, support overallcenter operations, and perform outreach to the community. The GE Program provides leadership experiencesin STEM for 9th-12th grade teens through volunteer work. At all levels, students develop work-based skillsand experience while providing meaningful community service to others.
