    Free for Educators: Advance RSVP Required
    At this session our focus will be on climate and energy. We will start off looking at "tree cookies" as recorders of climate change. What can we tell by looking at a single tree ring? Consider sharing your favorite activities about how the weather and climate change with the seasons. How does human use of energy impact the climate? What kinds of renewable energy technologies can we use that generate less or no carbon emissions? What are the impacts of carbon emissions on our surrounding natural ecosystem? Bring your ideas, demonstrations or lessons, and share how you've made this connection with students. If time permits, we will take a short hike in the redwoods to do a few activities.

    Do you like watching things go "BOOM"? Have you been mesmerized by the dancing flame of a campfire or fireplace? What is Fire? Why do things explode? Find out as we demonstrate the reactions which cause flame to burn and create explosions. This show is perfectly safe, but some small children may be frightened by the sudden booms or bright flames.

    Enjoy an easy 1-2 mile end-of-summer hike through the beautiful redwoods and watch the sun set over the bay! After the hike, stay and explore other amazing objects in the night sky through our telescopes (weather permitting) or tour the Telescope Makers Workshop. Hike will take place rain or shine.

Unlike our regular viewing on Friday and Saturday evenings, EAS personalizes the experience by taking viewing requests, live interaction, and hosting tours and it's exclusively for our members!

    Think, build, test, destroy... do it all over again and again! We're hosting open LEGO Laboratories every Sunday with an engineering challenge focus. Challenges vary each week and include solar car building and racing, creating green machines that impact our environment, robots that perform based on your programming, and bridge building with seismic testing. Builders of all ages and skills are welcome. Active parent participation is required for youth under 10 years.

    Over the past decade Europe's ROSETTA spacecraft has been traveling toward a rendezvous with the comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, and arrived there last August. Now ROSETTA is getting set to achieve a first-ever feat in space exploration: landing a probe, Philae, on the surface of the comet. We're hosting a live feed from ROSETTA and Philae in our planetarium starting at 6am. Landing is expected at 8am.

With five years of college under his belt and no degree, then twenty-something year old Wright created a game based on designing and building cities. In achieving that goal, Will created a new genre in gaming and within it, one of the best-loved game franchises in history, SimCity. An entirely new kind of video game genre, focused on open-ended, non-violent gameplay was born! Hear Will discuss his journey and his upcoming projects.

    We're partnering with the Bay Area International Children's Film Festival again to present the 7th annual Playdate for the Imagination, where education and imagination collide. Though the festival isn't until January, we've put together a special sneak-peek for members, highlighting the best of the 2014 festival and film clips screening at the 2015 festival. This year's theme is Green Innovation, harnessing creativity to solve global warming. The films inspire curiosity and conversation and allow children to experience an array of cultural perspectives on climate change. Join us in the MegaDome Theater for this free, members-only screening. Refreshments will be available by donation.

Dr. Matthew Walker, associate professor of psychology at UC Berkeley's Sleep and Neuroimaging Laboratory, presents cutting-edge discoveries of how sleep is a highly active process that effects on cognitive ability, overall health, and why so many of us don't get enough. Wine will be available for purchase.
