Weekend
Spotlight
What
is Weekend Spotlight?
Every
three months, Chabot Space & Science Center chooses a theme for
hands-on activities at the Center. Weekend Spotlight provides fun,
family-friendly, educational activities and
events for visitors of all ages to complement the programs and exhibits found elsewhere at the Science Center.
(During the summer months, activities occur daily.)

Weekend Spotlight:
 |
Planet Earth
March 1 June 29, 2003
Features hands-on activities and fun, interactive science demonstrations on
three rotating themes: atmospheres; energy science; and watersheds, local biodiversity and
native plants. Learn about the tools scientists use to study Earth's
climate. Make planetary origami, mobiles, and air molecule models to take
home. Build a weather monitoring station, and much more. |
Previous Weekend Spotlights:
Astronaut Training Camp
What's it like in space? Learn about the strange effects that humans experience in orbit,
and find out if you've got the right stuff to become an astronaut! |

|
Constellations
Come explore our featured constellation each
weekend! Construct a three-dimensional model of the constellation to show
the distances to stars, or make up your own picture and story for how the
group of stars came to be in the sky. You can also make a star wheel to
take home, and learn how to find the constellation of the day (and
others!) in the sky.
|
Robotics
Learn how to program a robot, or even what it's like to be one! You can
join in the robotics fun with activities for home and a tour of robotics sites
on the Web. |
|
Rockets:
(July - September 2002)
Investigate rockets and how they work. Make and launch simple rockets to
introduce you to the science of rocketry. |
The Wonders of Gravity
Why does it take such a big rocket to get into space? Why does the
international space station orbit? Are the astronauts really in zero
gravity? Where does gravity stop? Why do we weigh different amounts on
other planets? What helps the sun create all of its energy? How is a
black hole formed? All these questions and more can be answered with fun,
gravity-defying demonstrations and hands-on activities. Join us for
our latest Weekend Spotlight! |
