Go Back

The appearance of this planetary nebula gave someone the impression of a face dressed in a fur-lined parka, earning it the name of Eskimo Nebula.  The outer shell of material is decorated with comet-like filaments and streaks, all streaming away from the central star, which give the appearance of the fur of a parka.  The Eskimo Nebula is estimated to be about 3000 light years away and about 10,000 years old.
