Well-prepared teachers with access to necessary resources are more likely
to be effective instructors. Chabot Space & Science Center programs provide these much-needed services to Bay Area teachers.
Chabot
builds team-based, long-term partnerships with teachers, schools,
districts and universities to effect positive systemic changes in public
science education for grades K-12. All K-12 classes and teacher programs are correlated to
local, state, and national science education standards.
Chabot offers:
- Summer institutes for teachers with follow-up training
throughout the academic year, focusing on new content, methods and
pedagogy in science education.
- K-12 science classes in our
state-of-the-art astronomy, life science, physical science, and
computer labs and classrooms, and environmental education hikes
through the surrounding redwood forest.
- Outreach programs, including
classes, the Starlab Portable Planetarium, and Chabot's traveling
science fair, Chabot-to-Go.
- Teacher Research Center, a forum for
discussion and collaborative learning of the best practices of science
education.
- Recommended
on-line resources: a compilation of science education Web sites with
resources for teachers.
Chabot's teacher
programs serve up to 2,000 teachers annually, who in
turn will reach 60,000 students each year. Chabot's programs continue
to focus on astronomy and space sciences, and greater emphasis on technology training, environmental education, and preservice
programs for the next generation of science teachers.
