Chabot is committed to helping parents inspire and educate their kids to become the next generation of science leaders, innovators and dreamers.

We offer many fun family activities that help accomplish this goal as well as have fun together and create memories that will last a lifetime!

Spend the night in the museum, become a member, marvel at the large Moon Rock on display, go on a mission together in our Challenger Learning Center® and look at galaxies far far away. Don't forget to pick up some Astronaut ice cream in our Starry Nights Gift Shop before you return home.

  • Tyke Explorers Open Labs

    Tyke Explorers Open Labs

    For Ages 3 - 5 years
    Expand your preschooler's universe by enrolling in our Tyke Explorers Open Lab. Kids get to bring a special grown-up to share in the excitement of science and space. Labs are an open-ended sensory exploration of various materials and tools that change monthly.

    Enjoy a hike through the beautiful redwoods! After the hike, stay and explore other amazing objects in the night sky through our telescopes (weather permitting) or tour the Telescope Makers Workshop. Hike will take place rain or shine.

    Enjoy a day of STEAM with the special girls in your Universe. We're partnering with Girls Inc. of Alameda County to explore female scientists past and present; GoldieBlox toy company is offering engineering activities; and screening a Girl Rising film that explores the power of educating girls to change the world.

    Be dazzled with exciting demonstrations led by one of Chabot's dynamic science educators. Sudden appearances? Booms and bangs? Miraculous transformations?     LEGO Laboratory

    Members: $5
    Guests: $7 (does not include general admission)
    Think, build, test, destroy... do it all over again and again! We're hosting open LEGO Laboratories every Sunday with an engineering challenge focus. Challenges vary each week and include solar car building and racing, creating green machines that impact our environment, robots that perform based on your programming, and bridge building with seismic testing. Builders of all ages and skills are welcome. Active parent participation is required for youth under 10 years.

    Adult Missions in the Challenger Learning Center®

    Flyers must be 21+
    Tickets: $30 (does not include general admission)
    Just like our public missions for families, but this one is strictly for adult flyers. Bring your friends and join an intrepid team to land on the red planet, construct a probe to send to one of the moons of Mars and save your crew from calamity. Grab your flight suit, strap on a helmet and experience the thrill and excitement of a NASA simulated space mission to Mars! Wine, beer and light snacks will be provided.

    Ever wonder what it's like to be an astronaut on a space mission? How does it feel to be a Mission Specialist guiding flights around the Solar System? Find out in our Challenger Learning Center® as you experience the thrill and excitement of a NASA simulated space mission! Become an important member on a dynamic team accomplishing the goals of your mission. You are a vital member of the crew! This adventure is recommended for space travelers ages 10 years to adult (younger children may participate when teamed with an adult)

    NanoDays is a nationwide festival of educational programs about nanoscale science, engineering, and Technology and its potential impact on the future. NanoDays events are organized by partners in the Nanoscale Informal Science Education Network (NISE Net), and take place at over 250 science museums, Research centers, and universities across the country.

    The observatory deck opens at 2am for the late night viewing festivities. A Lunar Eclipse occurs when the Moon passes through the shadow of the Earth. Witness the stellar occurrence from our observation deck and come ready with your questions for our experts.  Bring binoculars, blankets and warm clothes.

    After a candlelit dinner, snuggle up with your sweetie under the stars under for this very special Supper Club! Lay out on our lawn and listen to an expert stargazer explain the mythology behind the constellations, stories of love from the night sky as seen throughout history and look for planets and other clues to help orient you to the cosmos.

    In this lively, illustrated talk, Dr. Richard Carrier will compare modern science (from the Scientific Revolution to today) with science in the ancient Greco-Roman world, where science as we know it began. We will understand what the Greeks and Romans achieved — and how close they got to their own scientific revolution

    Chabot is proud to partner with Wonderfest and Ask a Scientist to bring you this exciting lecture.

    Where: Observation Deck (located at the rear of the Museum)
    Price: Free (Center will be closed at this time)
    Hang out on the hill and watch as the Lyrids Meteor Shower makes it annual trip through our atmosphere and light up the night sky. Our astronomers are on hand to answer questions.

    Each Sunday preceding the 1st quarter moon, the Eastbay Astronomical Society invites you to a special private telescope viewing. Unlike our regular viewing on Friday and Saturday evenings, EAS personalizes the experience by taking viewing requests, live interaction, and hosting tours and it's exclusively for our members!

Bring your sleeping bags and blankets and come listen to an expert stargazer explain the mythology behind the constellations, stories from the night sky as seen throughout history and look for planets and other clues to help orient you to the night's sky.

    Please note: Weather permitting for outside viewing. If night sky conditions are or become poor for viewing the program will take place inside one of our historic telescope domes.
